Brandon Routh, who donned the cape in Bryan Singer’s SUPERMAN RETURNS in 2006, may not be returning for the next film in the series.  Routh’s contract has expired while the highly anticipated follow-up is currently brewing in film purgatory.

“The term of the contract expired, but if they call me again, [I’d go] back to the character without thinking twice!”

It’s been long speculated that the next film would be retooled with numerous changes from the previous go, so where is it? SUPERMAN is a billion dollar franchise, but it’s clear that the lackluster performance of SUPERMAN RETURNS has definitely hindered the evolution of the series.  The success of Marvel’s THE INCREDIBLE HULK has shown that revamps work in terms of both story and box office—something studios appreciate—but would Routh be invited back for a possible revamp of a revamp? I should start pumping iron now to get ready for those casting calls, and maybe grow an inch or fourteen.

Extra Tidbit: Brandon Routh played a Vampire in the upcoming film THE INFORMANTS, but his subplot and accompanying scenes have since been removed.
